1 Dollar Lawyer: Episode ten
With not a great deal story to go, our crew lastly gets on the exact same web page and decides to commence placing their heads with each other to full our 1 dollar lawyer’s accurate mission.
EPISODE ten WEECAP
Ultimately, with only 3 episodes to go, our drama decides to take the story they’ve constructed (zany comedy globe) and the 1 they’ve shown us (Ji-hoon’s dark and tragic backstory) and bring them with each other into 1 package. I’m glad they’re performing it, I’m just not positive but if the melding of the tones is a genius hybrid maneuver, or the most dissonant point ever. (Also, if they have been going to reduce two episodes off the drama, they really should have killed final week’s vehicle dealership side story in favor of the principal storyline with the emotional meat. But they didn’t ask me.)
But back to our present-day Ji-hoon, who we final left very carefully hiding his recognition of the new fancy-suited man going to their workplace. It is a funny scene — with super creepy undertones. The man desires a lawyer to clean up his messes, and cash is no matter. He sees the 1,000 won charge and enquires, and Ji-hoon says, “Yes, we only charge 1,000 won… per second.” Moo-jang does the math – and a victory dance later on — but the guy and his legit-hunting ID card have been all a scam.
So what’s up? We see in flashback that Ji-hoon – right after becoming stone-walled in his investigations for 3 years — told Prosecutor Na that rather of attempting to locate them, he would make them come to him. Which, certainly, appears like it is taking place.
Mari knows a thing is afoot, although, and follows Ji-hoon about. The two engage in their usual antics, but in the finish she admits she knows he’s hunting for an individual and she desires to aid him. He’s not pleased, and every thing about his demeanor shifts.
The subsequent day in the workplace, although, the vibe is the exact same — but now Moo-jang is in on it as well. Ji-hoon does not want them involved, but at some point they win him more than by saying how they do not want to see him sad, and that he’s helped so lots of persons, now it is time they helped him. I want to get much more behind this partnership, mainly because I really like the 3 of them becoming weird and finding sh!t performed, but mainly because the dialogue was all of ten lines and the show is taking such a light-handed method, there is not a great deal depth to grab onto. I’m starting to be grateful for the strong episodes of backstory we got, mainly because at least it adds some gravity right here.
From right here, our 3 crazies do what they’re very good at — following leads and becoming added. The moments of comedy are entertaining (I specifically loved the composite sketch showdown), but it is challenging to laugh as challenging at the show now that I know it is performing two issues at as soon as: attempting to be silly and madcap, and attempting to resolve the evil corruption/murder backstory. Can each these issues exist at the exact same time?
The man who is in prison for Joo-young’s murder is their very first lead — he was purchased off to take the fall by none other than Ji-hoon’s mysterious visitor. This is confirmed through Mari’s superb composite sketch and Moo-jang’s ~red sun~ hypnosis (my preferred moment of this week, no lie).
This admission leads them to a gambling ring, which leads them back to Fire Chicken — err, Bear — and then to a veritable gambling theme park named Neverland.
When in Rome, appropriate? Ji-hoon offers Mari and Moo-jang their valuable 1,000 won bills, but they drop most of them although gambling. It is Ji-hoon that creates a ruckus — he has some sort of magic taking place at the water beetle table. It is so weird and funny, and seriously just there for the laughs, mainly because the clues wind up bringing them complete circle back to Fire Bear.
If it sounds like a wild goose chase that is mainly because it feels like 1, as well. But they lastly get a thing very good: their mysterious visitor was heading to a fancy VIP occasion hosted by none other than… JQ Group.
Ji-hoon and group use a rogue invite to get into the occasion, and right after a complete lot of reprimanding from Ji-hoon about how they’ll all just go comfortably as themselves, we have the pleasure of watching our males arrive in tuxes, and Mari in a beautiful fuchsia gown.
Mari meets her mother there and gets roped into a blind date meeting, and Moo-jang gets mistaken for a waiter (WHOMP WHOMP), but Ji-hoon is appropriate on the cash. He finds the mystery baddie and follows him inside exactly where he’s greeted with a pat on the shoulder by… Mari’s grandpa. Nooooo.
It is unclear at this point (at least to me), how deep Baek Law Firm is involved in the Evil Badness behind JQ group, but it is not hunting very good. And Ji-hoon, also, appears to be abruptly acting extremely out of character. A fireworks show lures absolutely everyone outdoors and offers off an eerie red light. Ji-hoon grabs a steak knife from the buffet – as 1 does — and proceeds menacingly in the baddie’s path.
Do I count on Ji-hoon to murder an individual in broad fireworks-light? No, certainly a thing or an individual will cease this from occurring. Or, the ominous moment will be undercut totally when Ji-hoon grabs a nearby steak rather.
But just in case, there’s backup on hand. Min-hyuk and Prosecutor Na have been performing their personal investigations (due to much more mysterious “suicides” about the JQ slush fund) and their leads have led them to the exact same precise celebration. They arrive in a flourish, and I admit right after this episode I’m liking these characters much more and much more. Is Prosecutor Na a single mom? Simply because these two could possibly be a much better match than Min-hyuk and Mari.
Anyway, although the wild goose chase felt a small pointless, I’m glad to see all our players on the scene at this celebration. It feels like a culminating moment for the plot, and that is very good considering the fact that the drama has lots of unraveling and tying with each other to do in its final two episodes — which, in contrast to previously reported, will be delivered 1 per week. Let the suspense commence!
