Kappei (Hideaki ITO) is a martial artist who belongs to a gaggle of “Doomsday Warriors”. Led by their Grasp (Arata FURUTA), they consider in Nostradamus’ July 1999 prophecy and prepare vigorously on a secluded island to guard the world from impending destruction. Quick ahead to 2022 and with the prophecy unfulfilled, the Grasp lastly disbands and sends the group again to modern-day Japan. Missing social abilities and commonsense, Kappei and his warrior buddies land within the huge metropolis of Tokyo to start out their new life and awkwardly reintegrate into society. As “a hero with out antagonists”, Kappei helps a weak school pupil Keita (Daigo NISHIHATA) and subsequently falls in love with an harmless school pupil Haru (Moka KAMISHIRAISHI).
This can be a live-action adaptation of Kiminori WAKASUGI’s (Detroit Metallic Metropolis) post-apocalyptic comedy manga, Kappei, which was serialised in Hakusensha’s Younger Animal from 2011 to 2014 after which compiled in six tankōbon volumes. Skilled producer Takashi HIRANO (Nisekoi) makes his directorial debut with a screenplay by Yuichi TOKUNAGA (Lupin’s Daughter). Kappei‘s theme tune “Tekketsu Gravity” is carried out by Takanori NISHIKAWA and Momoiro Clover Z.
